Rado Unveils New Captain Cook With A Shimmering Gold-Toned Dial

A shimmering diamond-powder-inspired dial and a new mid-sized case mark the latest evolution of the Captain Cook

There's a new Captain Cook from Rado, and the first thing you notice is the dial. Finished in gold with a texture inspired by diamond powder, it's put together through several stages of work, and it shows. The way it catches light changes constantly as your wrist moves, giving this familiar dive watch a genuinely new personality.

Since its revival, the Captain Cook has grown into one of Rado's defining collections, known for pairing the spirit of the brand's original 1962 dive watch with contemporary materials and modern mechanics - and this latest piece pushes that identity further with a case size, finish, and material combination not seen before in the line.

What Makes The New Captain Cook's Dial Different?

The standout feature is the dial itself. Its sparkling, textured surface is created through a multi-stage manufacturing process designed to mimic the visual depth of diamond powder, giving the watch a look that shifts constantly under changing light.
This is finished off with a box-shaped sapphire crystal, coated with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, which adds further clarity and depth to the dial beneath it.
Together, the dial and crystal give the watch a noticeably dressier, more expressive presence than earlier Captain Cook references while still keeping the collection's familiar layout intact.

How Does The New 39mm Size Fit Into The Captain Cook Lineup?

The case measures 39mm in diameter, positioned deliberately between the existing 37mm and 43mm Captain Cook models. It's a size aimed at buyers who found the smaller reference too compact and the larger one too bold for everyday wear.
The polished stainless-steel case is paired with a rotating bezel that combines yellow gold-coloured PVD-coated steel with a polished black high-tech ceramic insert, a material Rado is particularly known for thanks to its scratch resistance.
Gold-coloured hands and applied indices, filled with white Super-LumiNova for legibility, sit beneath the sapphire crystal, while a date window at 3 o'clock rounds off the familiar Captain Cook dial layout.

What's Powering The New Captain Cook?

Inside the case is the automatic Rado Calibre R763, fitted with an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring for improved resistance to magnetic interference. The movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and is regulated in up to five positions, going beyond standard testing requirements for more consistent day-to-day accuracy.

A screw-down crown and caseback support a 300-metre (30 bar) water-resistance rating, keeping the watch firmly capable as a genuine dive watch despite its dressier dial treatment.

Rado's Legacy Of Innovation

Rado has long positioned itself as one of the more forward-looking names in Swiss watchmaking, built on a reputation for material science rather than tradition alone. The brand pioneered the use of high-tech ceramics in watchmaking, developing cases and bezels that are lightweight, hypoallergenic, and highly resistant to scratches - a hallmark still visible in references like this new Captain Cook.

That material-first approach has always gone hand in hand with a distinct design philosophy: clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and a slightly futuristic sensibility that sets Rado apart from more classically styled Swiss brands. The new Captain Cook reflects both sides of that legacy, pairing a technically advanced ceramic bezel with a dial finish that feels genuinely new for the collection.

Where Can You Explore Rado Watches in Delhi?

For those who'd rather see a Rado up close than judge it from photographs, Genuine & Gorgeous carries a curated range of Rado watches at its Pitampura boutique, spanning collections like the Captain Cook, True, and Centrix.
As an authorised Rado retailer, Genuine & Gorgeus offers buyers the chance to try on different case sizes, bezel finishes, and strap options in person - a useful step before committing to a piece, given how much a textured dial or ceramic bezel can change in hand versus in pictures.

Whether you're drawn to the Captain Cook's dive-watch practicality or Rado's broader ceramic-forward design language, the Pitampura boutique is a good starting point to explore what the brand currently has to offer.
